Adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing, also known as dual-wall heat shrink tubing, is designed to provide electrical insulation, mechanical protection, and environmental sealing for wires, cables, terminals, and electrical connections. It combines a heat-shrinkable outer layer with an inner layer of hot-melt adhesive.
When heat is applied, the outer layer of the tubing contracts tightly around the cable or component. At the same time, the inner adhesive layer softens and flows around the surface, filling small gaps and irregularities. As the assembly cools, the adhesive solidifies and creates a secure seal around the connection.
This combination makes heat shrink tubing with adhesive particularly useful where protection against moisture, dust, corrosion, and other environmental contaminants is required. The sealed connection can also receive additional mechanical support and strain protection.
Selecting the right adhesive-lined heat shrink depends on factors such as shrink ratio, recovered diameter, operating temperature, material, wall thickness, and application size. Common shrink ratios include 2:1, 3:1, and 4:1, allowing different tubing sizes to accommodate various cable diameters.
For reliable performance, the tubing should be correctly positioned and heated evenly using an appropriate heat source. Proper installation helps ensure complete recovery and consistent adhesive bonding.
Adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing is widely used in automotive, electrical, electronics, telecommunications, industrial, and power applications where dependable insulation and sealing are essential.
